Crown Perth, the little sister to Crown Melbourne, is the only land-based casino in Western Australia. It is located in the state’s capital city on the banks of Swan River in Burswood. The venue offers an array of gaming facilities, including more than 2500 gaming machines; however, it does not offer slots that feature pull-down levers, as these type of gaming machines are illegal in WA. You will also find the only two-up ring in Australia that is legal every day of the year (not just ANZAC day) at Crown Perth. History of Crown Perth The Crown Perth casino has a rich history beginning in the 1980s, when an entertainment complex was proposed to be built on Swan River by Perth businessman Dallas Dempster. The proposal faced a number of obstacles, including environmental factors due to the site’s original purpose as a landfill, but construction went ahead with a budget of $200 million for a 135-table casino as well as a hotel, convention centre, amphitheatre, golf course and many other amenities. The complex, which was completed ahead of schedule, officially opened as the Burswood Island Casino on December 30, 1985. At the time, it was considered to be the largest casino in Australia. In 1990, the casino saw plans for an expansion with an improved high roller area, which wasn’t opened until 1995. A $96 million renovation was proposed in 2000 that saw a bar, the Champion’s Bar (no longer open), and a nightclub, the Ruby Room (now known as Eve nightclub), open over the following two years. Kerry Packer, as the principal shareholder of Publishing and Broadcasting, took control of the casino in 2004 and renamed it the Burswood Entertainment Complex, which launched in 2005. A new VIP room was opened in 2006, followed by another high stakes gambling hall a year later. Also in 2007, the Carbon Sports Bar (now the Crown Sports Bar) was opened and then in 2008 a poker room was added. In 2011, James Packer (Kerry Packer’s son and the heir to the casino after he passed) proposed the rebranding of the Burswood Entertainment Complex, which was relaunched as Crown Perth in 2012. The Crown Perth gaming floors The Crown Casino Perth gaming space totals around 60,000 square feet, with sections dedicated to each category of gaming. There are two rooms allocated for high rollers: the Pearl Room and the Riviera Room. The Pearl Room is more exclusive and features private bars with 180-degree city views. Once granted access, members can invite guests to play at the Pearl Room. The Riviera Room has higher stakes table games, but with no Crown points or exclusive invites required. Featuring high limit blackjack, roulette and baccarat tables, as well as Crown Hold’em and Vegas Star Roulette, it is open to anyone who can meet the minimum table limits. Electronic Gaming Pull-the-lever slot fans won’t be able to find their favourite gaming machines here, as these are banned in Western Australia.
