History of the Adelaide Casino

The Adelaide Casino opened its doors in 1985 under licensing by the state owned Lotteries Commission. There was originally 89 table games on offer and a few years later the inclusion of electronic game machines resulted in significant growth.

In 2000, the casino was sold to the SKYCITY Entertainment Group and officially renamed SKYCITY Adelaide. Since it first opened, the casino has undergone several major refurbishments and extensions.

Today the casino is still owned by SKYCITY but resumed trading as Adelaide Casino in 2009. With the new licensing agreement and subsequent renovations in 2014, the number of table games increased to 200 and electronic game machines to 1,500. The casino is now the 10th largest employer in the state, employing over 1,000 staff and contributes around $19 million in state taxes annually.
