Jupiters Casino gold coast

Jupiters Hotel and Casino Gold Coast was the first casino to open in Queensland. Situated in the Gold Coast suburb of Broadbeach on an island in the Dunlops Canal, the complex is surrounded by seven acres of tropical gardens. It is connected to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre via skywalk, and to the Oasis Shopping Centre by monorail.

For those who like to swim with the sharks, it’s only a nine minute walk from Jupiters to the beach.

History of Jupiters Casino Gold Coast

Jupiters was partially opened in November 1985, before its official completion in February 1986. Since then it has undergone both a series of renovations and a series of scandals.

The casino is owned by Echo Entertainment, which is also responsible for the Star Sydney and the Treasury Casino and Hotel Brisbane.

The first set of renovations at Jupiters began in 2006, two decades after it opened. The $53 million project saw two gaming floors merged into one and then doubled in size, while the second level was transformed into the Gold Club Room for VIP players. New restaurants and bars were all also included.

In 2008 the hotel was refurbished in a $16 million project that included new digs for the front office and the bar located in the lobby. Then, in 2012, Jupiters Theatre underwent a $20 million makeover and expansion.

Finally, it was announced in 2014 the casino would receive a $345 million upgrade focused predominantly on accommodating high rollers and international tourists, with the renovation seeing improved VIP gaming facilities and brand new two-storey luxury villas. Echo Entertainment has also stumped up for a fleet of private jets in order to offer exclusive transportation to and from Jupiters for overseas VIPs. The renovations are expected to be competed in mid-2016.

Now to the scandalous side of things, here is a list of all the incidents that saw Jupiters make headlines;

  • From 1993 to 2001, the casino was scammed out of $5.7 million due to corrupt staff creating fake food orders.
  • In 1995, Brisbane Broncos player Julian O’Neill urinated on the blackjack tables on two different occasions.
  • From 2006 to 2007, organised crime syndicates laundered money at both Jupiters and Brisbane’s Treasury Casino.
  • In 2008, security employees wore recording devices on their ears as part of a trial in incident documentation. However, this raised issues surrounding the lack of regulation.

Gaming facilities

The main gambling floor is 65,000 square feet and sees a spread of electronic gaming machines, table games, and a dedicated poker room.

VIP players can access three private gaming rooms located on the second floor: The Suite, The Sterling Suite and the Club Room. These facilities will be bigger and better than ever once renovations are completed in 2016.
