ATMs in Melbourne’s Crown Casino Published July 17, 2015Updated May 17 , 2021 Melbourne’s Crown Casino may be the largest gaming complex in the Southern Hemisphere, but that doesn’t necessarily make it the best. It has a rather mixed reputation when it comes to value for money, and we’re not just talking about the house edge on its blackjack tables. As frequent punters at Crown Melbourne, we’ve provided a guide to what to expect from the casino, highlighting both the good and bad features of Australia’s biggest and most famous land based casino. About Crown Melbourne Crown Melbourne is owned by billionaire casino mogul, James Packer and his company, Crown Resorts. It is located on the banks of the Yarra River in Southbank, Melbourne and is one of the most iconic buildings in the city, attracting hordes of tourists and locals every day. More than just a casino, Crown Melbourne offers accommodation, restaurants, luxury retail outlets, bars, nightclubs and other entertainment facilities, making it a one-stop shop for a great night out in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. The Crown complex hosts four hotels, Crown Towers, Crown Promenade and Crown Metropol, with a fourth hotel currently in development. Crown Melbourne can be found at 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank, Victoria. General enquiries can be directed to (03) 9292 8888. Entry and dress code To enter the casino section of the Crown entertainment complex, patrons must be at least 18 years of age. Entry to the casino is free, and a neat, casual dress code most be observed at all times. Items considered unacceptable include ripped, torn or soiled clothing, t-shirts with offensive slogans or designs, camouflage clothing, male singlets or tank tops, manual work clothing, steep capped boots, ugg boots, gum boots, hats, bandanas, thongs or untidy footwear. Stricter dress codes may apply to the nightclubs within the casino, and management reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone in unsuitable attire. Casino opening hours Crown Melbourne is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, with limited hours on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good Friday. On these days, the casino closes at 4AM and reopens again at midday. Casino games at Crown Melbourne Crown Melbourne offers casino games to suit all tastes and budgets, with 3,500 electronic gaming machines and a wide range of table game variants, from the classic to the unique. The casino is also home to Aussie Millions, one of the largest poker tournaments in the world. Along with the thousands of slot machines, Crown Melbourne offers the biggest selection of table games in Australia, including: Baccarat Big Wheel Blackjack Caribbean Stud Casino War Dice Duel Craps Mississippi Stud Nutz Pai Gow Poker Pokerbo Poker War Pontoon Pandemonium Rapid Blackjack Rapid Roulette Roulette Roulette Match Sic Bo Three Card Poker WSOP Texas Hold’em VIP gaming For access to higher limit games, visitors can get access to Crown Casino’s VIP gaming rooms, the Teak Room and the ultra-exclusive Mahogany Room. Entry to VIP gaming rooms can be gained by becoming part of the Crown Rewards loyalty program and earning a specified number of points, or by invitation. $4.50 ATM fees at Crown Casino There are loads of ATMs around the Crown complex, particular near the entrances to the casino itself. These might seem like a handy convenience at first, but we’ll show you why you might be better off stocking up on cash before you set foot on the gaming floor. The first problem with the Crown Casino cashpoints is that they are all generic, with no affiliation to any specific Australian bank. This is the case at most gaming establishments around the country, unfortunately, and it makes it all but impossible to avoid extra withdrawal charges. Now, there is nothing new about Automatic Teller Machines charging transaction fees; it’s what you might call a tolerable nuisance. Most Aussies can live with forking over $2 for using a rival bank’s cashpoint, while $2.50 is around par for those non-affiliated machines found at service stations and convenience stores. But the Crown Casino ATMs really take the piss. On this writer’s most recent visit to Southbank, punters were forced to cough up an additional $4.50 for the privilege of using these crappy cash machines. That’s more than twice what you’d pay for using a standard bank-branded ATM. In our opinion, this is an absolute joke. An evening at Crown Melbourne is already a potentially expensive affair, even if you’re having a decent run on the poker tables or the roulette wheel. Throw a few trips to the ATM on top of overpriced drinks and laughable cab fares, and that fun night out can very quickly result in an empty bank account (and an uncomfortable conversation with your other half the next day). Bank machines near Crown Melbourne If you are planning on having a bet at Crown, we strongly advise that you take out cash beforehand. Make sure you withdraw more than enough to cover any and all expenses for the night, so you don’t have to top up at one of the rip-off cash machines around the venue. The ATMs listed below are all on and around the Southbank precinct, within easy reach of the casino complex. As you will see, there are a few hotspots which feature cash machines from several banks: Southgate Plaza: The main dining, drinking and shopping strip between St Kilda Road and Queensbridge Street on Southbank, adjacent to the Yarra River. Freshwater Place Arcade: The ground floor of the huge residential high-rise off Queensbridge Street, right next door to Crown. Northbank: On Flinders Street between Spender Street and Princes Highway, directly across the river from the Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex. For more information, visit your banking group’s official website and use the ATM locator. Type ‘3006’ into the search bar to narrow the results down to cashpoint locations within the Southbank postcode.
